Outdoor Housing

hroberts Sep 18, 2003 08:56 PM

I have an 2.5 year old Cuban. I have had him indoors and take him out side and everywhere with me. so he gets plenty of UV light. However I would like to build him an outdoor cage so while I am at work he can be basking in the sunlight. I have been searching the web and haven't really found any good ideas for a Cyclura Enclosure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Harold

there are a few ways to go. Some depends on where you live and the temp. If you need to keep heat in, a greenhouse would work but can be pricey. You could try something as simple as a box made from treated 4x4s as big as you can make it with a door and pvc coated wire mesh. Another way to go are the prefab dog kennels that use cyclone fencing that is coated or not. you can find those on the web. I know people who then put plastic over the wire mesh for the colder months to retain heat. A heated "dog house" or hide would be a good thing to include so your cuban can warm up when needed. The west indian rock iguana article written by David Blair that you can find on cyclura.com would be good to read. David explains his enclosures and you may get some ideas from there.
