Question about humidity?

silvertarpon Sep 18, 2003 09:08 PM

I just got my panther a few days ago and I have a question about night time humidity. I have a mister that runs in the day as well an ultrasonic humidifier that I have coming in through the top via PVC pipe. It pushes a nice fog through the cage as well as the ocasional dripping water. Now, should I run the humidifier at night, as well as the day, or will this disrupt his sleeping? There is maybe a 10% drop in humidity at night when the humidifer is not running. Thanks

its sounds like you have it all running durring the day all day. you should let the cage sort of dry out during the day but keep the humidity above 60% and night you can run the humidifire right before lights out and a little while (1/2 to 1 hour) and then have it start about a half hour before lights on and have the spray go right at or right before lights on to simulate dew then have the mist spray every couple hours for a minute or so

And, so you don't have to remember to cycle it, get a plug in lamp timer that allows you to set multiple on-off cycles in 24 hours and use that to control when and for how long your humidifier runs. To find out how long it has to run to reach the humidity you want, first let the cage get "too dry". Then start the humidifier and let it run until it gets to the level you want to maintain. Then shut it off and see how long it takes to get too dry again. This will determine the cycle lengths.
