unfertilized eggs?

bam171bam Dec 18, 2009 03:56 PM

I opened the cage to clean, and noticed this female had a few strange jelly like blobs in her cage. She was cycled last year, but did not end up breeding for me. I am cycling her again this year, and she last ate about 3 weeks ago, and has obviously just shed. There was 4 of these blobs in her cage. Are they unfertilized eggs? Anyone else have any similar findings. Thanks Jason

they look to be just that......
...might as well feed her well for awhile and breed her a little late.....as she just laid the unfertilized ovum....
I have a female that dropped good eggs on Oct 3rd....so I am not introducing a male for awhile, and I am feeding her a little better than some others....she'll just be late again...but I think we can push them to lay again in 10 months.....doesn't have to take a whole year.......

Thanks for the advice, i plan to do just that. does this happen often to you guys that have been breeding many years?

not sure how often...I saw it once...little fat blobs in the tank...I think she did lay after that year???..forget....they were alot smaller than yours and more of them.....usually no...they resorb them.....yours ?...maybe like this...one ovary resorbed the ovum...maybe 6...the other ovary dropped them into the oviduct (unwanted) and then they have to come out...they cannot go back or get resorbed....

hundreds of eggs here.....only once I had fat blobs and once ? I think a ball laid all duds....I do get duds...anywhere from 1 to 5 in a clutch along with good eggs...usually they are chicken egg sized.....and at times...the female is just too fat I think and the sperm doesn't make it all the way into the ovum well enogh ...that and small males?.....too few breedings/copulations........so not common.....

...good luck.........

Little fat blobs is right.

I suspect the female that threw this mess was kept a little to hot over the summer..I got her in the fall, and she threw these in December(2008)..and yeah she is about to get another try real soon.

just to clear it up....
this photo has a start of the shelling process going on with the ovum...the initial poster has not really any shelling at all starting...and the "little fat blobs" I found once were actually just that....white fat blobs...I could have probably melted them down and cooked an egg on them, they were that clean and white....(little bit of blood vessel going on though)...

...yes...they are all actually the same thing....just mentioning that sometimes the shelling doesn't even start ....

good luck, sorry about the duds....).......
