Mites on entire collection!!!! Help!!!

ChristopherM Dec 19, 2009 04:54 PM

OK I have tried a few things on my own to no avail. I tried to spray the carrying reptiles and thier enclosures with Reptile Relief (Good product?). I had a couple reptiles with mites months ago. I dont know if it was from outside or an animal that I bought.

So now i Have About 20 snakes almost all with traces of mites.

Never been in this situation and would like to hear some ideas for getting all of the mites gone for good. Does this prevent a mite spray work better? And has anywone bagged up thier collection and just bug bombed thier house?

I know a million questions, But thanks in advance for any input you guys have.

Thanks,
Christoher

Having had snakes all my life and mite infestations with 47 constrictors and some large ones, here is what works without much contortions. You need to kill all stages of the mite life cycle including their eggs. Go to the health&beauty section of Walmart and buy a few cans of EQUATE BEEDING SPRAY-same exact stuff as Provent A Mite but without the directions for reptiles. DO NO EVER directly spray a reptile directly with either Equate or Provent A Mite.

For each cage, remove snake and water bowl. LIGHTLY spray substrate and cage furniture. Give it at least 30 minutes to dry and replace snake/bowl. Repeat in two weeks. Give it time to work. This is not an instant insect killer but works by disolving the mite's exoskeleton and eggs. This procedure will eradicate your mights totally. Some coat the snakes with oil and scrub cages with bleach. I have not found this necessary. The proximity to the Equate will kill mites both in cage and snake crevaces. Good luck with this. Bill.
