Still dented

blazeyoungblood Sep 18, 2003 10:29 PM

I'm in need of some quick help. My fertile eggs are denting, as posted a couple of dozen lines below, and I need to know why and how to fix it. The humidity is at 90, the temp is at 84. The eggs have a canopy that doesn't let water to drip on them. I did candle them, so from what I can see, they are fertile. There is a pinkish red dot on the top, and some red veins visible. I have them half buried in moistened vermiculite. Please, as soon as someone can help, please do so. I don't want to lose my first set of eggs.

I could be completely off on this, but I think maybe the canopy is more absorbant than the eggs and robs the moisture in the air from the eggs. You could try removing it and finding another way to prevent condensation from dripping on the eggs, such as placing the eggs closer to the sides of the container where less water droplets gather overhead. An immediate solution for the denting is to place a damp paper towel (damp, not wet) over the eggs.

One of my eggs had denting the day that I found it, but it corrected itself right away as soon as I achieved the correct humidity. I did this without a paper towel and used perlite instead of vermiculite. It's now two weeks old and completely firm.

Great, I'll give that a try. Thank you very much, hopefuly that will do the trick.
