Hypomelanistic Sinaloans in 2010?

Dan_W Dec 22, 2009 01:58 PM

With all the popularity enjoyed by the sub species, I'm surprised that a hypomelanistic morph hasn't surfaced by now. It would be a beautiful animal, and make for some interesting projects... Do they exist now, and if so, are the breeeders keeping them under wraps until they are eventually marketed?

Hey Dan,

I am not aware of any hypomelanistic sinaloans out there. I believe there are some hypomelanistic nelsoni, however.

You can find some really nice sinaloans that might as well be hypomelansitic in that they have virtually no tipping, etc. but they aren't very plentiful...

Thanks, Dave. I never get tired looking at photos of your Cosalas; they are spectacular!!! I'm surprised that they haven't been imported into Europe yet...

I think Shannon has some hypo sinaloans.

HondoAberrant Dec 22, 2009 07:26 PM

There are a few Hypo E Sinaloans out there, I have 2 and I know that Nathan Wells has a breeding program for these. They are quite a bit lighter than standard Sinaloans, even the Orange or Pumpkin Sinaloans, and are almost a light grayish pink.

VERY interesting, Gerrit! Do they stay super bright as adults compared with the "normals"? What else can you tell us about them? First the Europeans pop out T Nelsoni, and now hypo Sinaloans! We still have the Extreme Hondurans...!

Thanks, Gerrit. I for one would be interested in as much info as you have on these guys, as well as more photos of hatchlings and adults.

I thought those keyed out as nelsoni? Those are what I was referring to in my post above.

Hey there, happy holidays! What ever happened to those Gentilis morphs you produced a while ago? Any pics...new or old would be great!

Dan_W Dec 23, 2009 01:34 AM

I'm aware of the Hypo E Sinaloans, as well as the pumpkin phase. I wouldn't be surprised if Nathan Wells had a trick or two up his sleeve -- he's definitely one of the Sinaloan kings in the hobby. I prefer the bright red of the "normal" non abberant Sinaloans. If there were hypos out there, Sinaloans might start giving Hondurans a run for their money as far as popularity goes...

Dan_W Dec 23, 2009 01:42 AM

That's T Plus Nelsoni. Some characters on my Italian keyboard don't show up as they are typed... LOL

HondoAberrant Dec 23, 2009 10:36 AM

I'm not sure that a Sinaloan just being Hypo will knock the Hondurans off the pedestal...Gerrit's Hypo's look very clean, for sure, but not THAT much cleaner than some of my normals or Cosala's.

Nathan produces a VERY light Albino/Hypo E, which is very cool.

I will be breeding my T-Plus (from Shannon Brown) line into my Splotched line and my Hypo E (from Nathan Wells), so who knows?

HondoAberrant,

I contacted Dave Niles several weeks ago, but he's sold out of Cosalas, and don't want to wait until September 2010... LOL If need be I'll have one sent to Italy from the U.S. in mid March. I agree that it doesn't get much better, especially considering the fact that Sinaloans are usually very tame and that they can attain a length of 5 feet or more.

Dan

P.S. If you know of a source of killer Cosalas other than Dave, do e-mail me please. Thanks!

Nathan Wells Dec 24, 2009 12:59 PM

Dan,
Dave Niles, Vinny Lynch, Wayne Sanders along with myself should all have some super nice Cosalas available in the 2010 season.
Thanks again for the kind comments posted above.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas.
