Are freeze dried crix okay to feed dragons?
Only if you're able to get them to eat the freezed dried kind.
There is a new bowl that they made that makes the freeze dried crickets bounce to make the lizards think they are moving. No, really, it was either T-rex or ESU. I'll have to look it up again.
We got our new baby to eat a pellet my moving it around with a piece of wire. He doesn't really like the texture though. So much for ZooMed's claim of soft and chewy. Things are hard and if you try to soak them, they fall apart. I haven't found the Reptical yet.
Back to the freeze dried, their claim is that they preserve them in such a way to keep the protiens in. Wonder if they gut load them first....
Most freeze dried crickets I have seen on the market are gutloaded first. There fine for your dragons if they will eat them. The vibrating bowls do work or you can hand them to your dragon with a pair of hemastats while moving them around a little. The only other thing I see as a problem is that freeze dried crickets tend to be quite expensive compared to buying live ones by the thousand.
Try using the Kaytee pellets. I soak them for about 10 minutes. And when you soak them, they're not smeely like repcal, they smeell fruity and my dragons love them.

My dragons did not like the freeze dried kind to much. I guess it was the dried out texture of them. I was surprised though when I tried ZooMeds Can O Crickets. They actually really enjoyed them, ate them one right after the other. I lightly sprinkled some calcium on them and tossed them in front of the dragons and they pounced on them like they were live. These unlike the freeze dried are cooked in the can to lock in taste, and moisture. Great for dragons that are tricky to get to drink water cause of the high moisture in them. The guaranteed analysis was not bad either. Good protein, fat, moisture levels very close to live cricket. Reptile direct has them for 2.88 best price I've found, and the price goes down the more cans you buy. The crickets do come in too sizes the red can is for young juvinile dragons, and the yellow can is more for large juvi's to adult dragons. They also have meal worms, and catapillers I tried also. They ate them all. Pillers are high in fat kinda like a wax worm.
