Python not eating, suggestions please??

redtailedguyana Dec 23, 2009 09:48 PM

Hi, I got my first burmese python about a year ago, and he's always been a good eater. When I made the transition from rats to rabbits, it took a bit of work, but after scenting the rabbits with rats for the first couple feedings he took to it quite well. Lately, the last couple feedings, usually after he shed and defecated, he showed his normal signs of being hungry (roaming around the cage looking for food) he'll approach the rabbit and give it a few smells but wont take it. I could understand if he's starting to not feel as hungry as he used to, but its very confusing when he's searching for food like he always does, but doesn't eat.
not sure whats going on. I'm wondering if any of you have ever experienced their snake showing all the signs of interest in food, smells it but ends up not eating it. I've been sticking to the exact rituals around feeding time, nothing has changed.
ANY help is well appreciated. thanks

Mating season. Males of most pythons stop eating.

Hello.
Yea, could also be the change in weather.
My two treeboa males stopped feeding.

thanks guys, so it makes sense that he's acting in feeding mode, but he's really looking for a piece of nookie. Never thought of that. Thanks again
