Lavender or Just An albino

j_h_smith Dec 24, 2009 07:38 AM

Maybe I'm wrong. I do know I'm somewhat color blind. But I'm having a tough time seeing the difference between Lavender Albino and Albino Ball Python babies/juvies. Anyone care to help me out here?

Baby lavenders do not have any lavender coloring, they are a high contrast. The lavender coloring comes in over time, maybe as long as two years. Mike

lavender, just like toffee colors come in after time.

Even on adults, it's hard to see it on pictures. No pictures seem to be able to really show the difference, you have to see them with your eyes.

These are larger, older snakes, I need to know how to tell them apart if someone is selling a 10 week old snake as an Lavender Albino. I've seen so many that look like regular high contrast albino babies, there's a larger difference in price. I just want to be sure.

That's easy-just ask for a pic of the lavender albino parent. Of course, if it was a het to het breeding, that won't work.

Who are you buying it from. I hope to god you are buying it from a reputable person. Not a ton of people sell lavenders and you definitely want to buy it from someone who has got some history. Atleast I would if you are going to spend 4 to 5 thousand on a snake do your homework....Good luck.

Well, it seems there are more and more people selling Lavender Albinos. I am looking for a female or a 100% het. In that is my delema. If I go the het route, it's complete faith. If I look on the net, the Lavenders appear to look just like a regular Albino. I'm not saying someone is going to cheat me, but I would like to see exactly what I'm buying. Maybe I'm thinking too much, but that's serious coin!

As stated-buy from a reputable breeder (at least one or two such are currently advertising lavs and hets in the classified section)-if you have doubts about the reliability of a breeder, just ask around or check the BOI...

It's true you can tell a lav from a high-contrast albino from hatching, but it is also true that the difference may not show up in pics,

You can really tell right from when they are hatchlings. The yellow is a different yellow than normal albino's, and you can usually see a little purple color on the heads even when they are very young. I also notice that the belly is a different color on my lavenders as well.

I hear you, but I also hear from others that the lavender color comes in time. I do know the Lavenders are high contrast, but so are some regular albinos. I also know that still pictures maybe aren't showing the true colors of the snake, but many of them look just like a high contrast albino. Seems like the 100-250 gram snakes are what's being sold and I just can't see the difference between lavenders and regular albinos. I know I'm a little color blind, but there a big difference in price to lay out.

My advice would be to go to a show and see them in person. That would answer all of your questions.

I 2nd that information. My baby lavender does look like an albino in pictures, but if saw her in person youd know shes not a regular albino. Its easier to believe once you see it in person!!!

bigdaddyballroom Dec 24, 2009 12:55 PM

here is a pic of the two together and as you can see the lavender albino has alot more color and contrast than a normal albino. Hope this helps.

the difference between the two besides the high contrast color is there eyes, albinos have red and lavenders have brown, just look at there pupils up close, just be carful not to get bit in the face, have to respect there comfort zone, thanks and everyone have a bless holiday and be safe.....mark

customreptiles Dec 24, 2009 07:50 PM

Actually,Albino's have pink eyes and Lavenders have red eyes,or at least mine do,lol
