Anyone read article in new Reptiles Magizine regarding rainbow boas?

jdouglas Sep 18, 2003 11:40 PM

I found some of the info regarding lateral pattern and color to be a bit confusing. Anyone else have thoughts on this article?

I really enjoy reading the article about Rainbows, but i think it does not has too much important information about the specie cenchria, it was more like a story in the field.

Jaremy,
. I am a BIG fan of Dick Bartlett. His writings about reptiles have always been very interesting. He was writing some of the very best herp hunting articles I have ever read back in the 80s when there was a serious shortage of interesting herp related literature. He has traveled and done field work extensively. His writing can make you get interested in herps that you never knew you would be interested in. I just happen to not agree with everything he writes about Rainbow Boas. IMHO he makes the same mistake that many others do when they call a Brazilian Rainbow form northern or Amazonian Peru a Peruvian Rainbow Boa. The PIC of the oddly marked snake from Venezuela is very interesting. Patrick Faulhaber who posts as PAF on the Boa forum lives in Venezuela and has posted PICs of similar looking Rainbow Boas. If you get a chance you should read Bartlett's large format paperback "Popular Pythons and Boas". He has written many excellent books and hundreds of great articles and this book comes up way short on good info about Rainbow Boas, again IMHO.
Jeff
