Sure look like fun little snakes...do they always have that little 'tude and puff up and all? Also, is that natural variation between those siblings?

From my experience the babies tend to threat gesture a lot and will strike sometimes but my adults are generally calm when handled.
Their base color varies with some being darker than others but their pattern doesen't vary much. Their is another subspecies that has a busier pattern which i've been trying to find for years but haven't had any luck yet.

Very cool little ratsnakes. They remind me of a cross bt. a beauty snake and a radiated rat. Do you have a very large group of these, Randy, and have you bred them, yet??

Thanks...Terry

They definatly have visual characteristics of both beauty and radiated rats. Have you seen pictures of the other subspecies (helena monticollaris). They are incredible looking. I've looked for some for years with no luck.
I just have the breeding pair of helena helena pictured in the middle photo I posted above right now. The babies in the top photo came from them this season. They have the coolest visual threat of any subspecies I've ever kept. Much like radiated rats. They will literally hold as much as almost half their body off the ground when threat gesturing.

Thanks for the info, Randy. Helena is a great species. I've never seen the other ssps in the U. S. before. I would jump on that given the chance.

That bimac in your post is neat too..

Do I see 7 eggs there, or was there more. I'm not sure what the largest clutch for bimaculata is? Good luck breeding those next season. Good luck with the helena too.

Happy New Year... Terry

Their were 7 eggs in that clutch. That has been her magic number most of the years she has laid.
Thanks and good luck with all your projects.
Hope to see you in Daytona again one of these days.

GEMS might just be appropriate.
How are they personality wise?

Their fairly calm as long as their held occaisonally like your average colubrid but they do put on a hell of a show when in the mood. lol
