Vietnamese Blue Beauties Anyone?

monklet Dec 26, 2009 11:16 AM

I'd enjoy seeing some pics. Do they all go really blue or are they pretty variable?

Thanks to all replies

I'm not sure where the nick name Vietnamese Blue Beauties came from. The Blues actual range, as far as I know is considered to be western Thailand and eastern Burma. Yunannensis and Mocquardi are the subspecies from Vietnam (northern vietnam).
Blue Beauties (E. taeniura ssp.) color varies but generally has somewhat of a greyish base color with the ones I like best being a slate blue/grey color.

I have a baby blue beauty. He has trouble every time he sheds. I have to hold him and wet my hands and rub him to get the old shed off.

Should he have a moist hide? All the time or just when shedding? He stays in his hide most all the time.

He's on aspen right now, but I'm about to change him to bark.

I appreciate your help.

I would definalty add a moist hide or change the bedding to cypress mulch instead of bark, keeping an area of it moist with a secure hide in the moist area and also a hide on the drier side. You might also want to add a larger water bowl in it's cage to increase the humidity. If it is in a screen top aquarium, I would cover most of the screen top with something, just leaving about an inch on each end uncovered for air circulation.

It didn't like my hosting site I guess. Let's try again...
The first two are when I first got her in 2007 and the last is from October I think. The lighting wasn't good, outside she's more blue and I'm sure she'll blue up some more.

I've only had shedding problems once, a stuck eye cap. I wet a towel so it was damp and put it in a rubbermaid tub (and put the snake in the towel) for 20 minutes or so and the eye cap came off. Like Randy said, try a larger water bowl, mist once or twice a day...especially near a shed. You can cover the screen top with tin foil. That, the moist hide and the cypress should help. My Beauty hid a lot as a youngster but she's out at daybreak and then on and off throughout the day she'll be out unless she's just eaten or near a shed. Very secretive eater though, won't eat if she's watched. Cage aggressive, but calms down nicely after I hook her and get her out. She draws blood otherwise!

Glad ya got the image issue worked-out. Beautiful animal and nice looking setup. Thanks for posting

Thanks. Mine is a secretive eater, too. I place his food in the entrance to his hide and then cover the tank. So far he's easy to handle. I get him out at least once a week and hold him for a bit, maybe that'll help. Who knows?

Mine were pretty blue. Quite aggressive, striking at the side of the cage as soon as I enter the snake room. No longer keeping them.
