Triangulum Means What??

Ameron Dec 27, 2009 01:59 PM

(Yes, I'm new to this post. No, I won't post often and I'll try to avoid simple-minded questions.)

I've done a Google search; all that I find is a reference to stellar constellations!

Anyone know what "triangulum" means in Latin, and why the species has this name? (As opposed to "shiny shields".)

It literally means triangle, and refers to the triads(rings of three).

Doug,

I don't think it does refer to 'triads'. In fact, from a great website (that I will post the URL to below), it means 'L. tri three and L. angulum angle or corner — ref. 3 angled feature pattern on head'. I hope this helps! The site below is REALLY cool and gives definitions for pretty much all of our herps. Cheers!
