Starting up a rat colony

joshj16 Sep 19, 2003 12:00 AM

I'm planning on making a rack and I have a few questions. What should I use as food, and what size should the tubs be?

I've been using sterlite tubs. The one draw back they have is that sometimes the rats will chew through them. As they get chewed up I am not replacing them. Many people here use the smaller size cement mixing tubs from the hardware stores. These can be used in racks or you can make lids for them with 1"X2"s, 1/2"X1/2" hardware cloth, and a stapler. There have been a few pics of racks in the last couple of weeks. I don't use a rack because I only keep 1.2 and 1.4. I just put 2"X4"s between the cages and stack them up.
