It's hard to say. The best thing to do is to send him to me and I will cool him with my other hoggies, and see if he will breed in the spring. If he does I will return him to you as soon as I prove him out for you. Don't thank me now, what are friends for?
Seriously, I am amazed at how small a male hoggie can be, and yet still breed the females. Personally, I like mine to be more mature, but smaller ones can and do reproduce. Cool him and give him a try.

There are two things you need to consider when breeding any reptile...
Weight is important but if not the most important...

In this case you need to also consider age and over all body condition...

The more mature your male is, the better chance you have of him doing his job..

You make a very good point. Condition is very important, as males may quit eating for a long period during the breeding season.
