plants and glue

scooter182 Sep 19, 2003 01:39 AM

i noticed today that the fake plastic plants in wal-mart are lot cheaper than the ones i buy at the pet store. i want to put them in a cage that i made for a crested gecko. what kind of glue can i use to attach the fake leaves to the climbing branches? i don't want to use anything toxic. thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah, Walmart is a good place to get little silk and plastic plants for your enclosures, and many of them surprisingly actually look good/realistic. I avoid the pet stores as much as possible because things are usually so over priced. You could probably try attaching your plants to the branches with a hot glue gun if you have one - that's what I use, and it's safe. I'll buy a few packages of suction cups at the dollar store to stick plants on the glass as well. I get the ones that are used for hanging Xmas lights on your windows. They have a slot in the nubby. I take the metal hooks off, and push the stems of the plants into the slots of the cups then stick the plants on the glass. Depending on the size of the plant, it might take a few cups to hold them securely to the glass.

Aquarium grade silicon or a hot glue gun are your best bet... Just do one thing first, take a razor and trim the little edges off of the fake plants... Like on the stems and such. I noticed crickets eating that part in my friends crested cage. And I think that would be bad in the long run.
