HELP MY KINGSNAKE WON"T EAT!!!!

Bluerosy Dec 31, 2009 06:12 PM

My Florida king (Tootzie) stopped feeding and I don't know why.

She (or he?)(I can post a pic so maybe someone could tell me) is in a 60 gallon aquarium with a heat lamp on one end. She is about 3 -3" 1/2" ft and feeding on one fuzzy per week. It is snowing outside where I live but it still prefers the cold side of the aquarium even though it sneezes and has a runny nose. I think she stopped using the hot side when she burned herself on the lamp. Also some of her old shed still stuck on her which i tried to remove after the mites she got from the hardware store mulch I have been using. But she still has dry and stuck shed on her head and eyes even though I switched to basic A plus Florida beach sand. It gets in her mouth and now she makes a squeeky sound.

My roomate that lives with me under the bridge tells me it is a cornsnake because she is on the thin side. But the pet shop girl told me she is a desert phase brooksi and to feed her only once a week. Am i doing the right thing?

Oh and thanks in advance to you guys and your help here as I am a frequent lurker. Now i only give her bottled water (thanks DISCERN!)and started her on fuzzies last month.

That all sounds perfect to me, what could possibly be the problem??

You must not have followed the advice of the teenaged girl at the Petco counter very well, she had a garter snake once a few years ago, so she has TONS of great in-depth snake experience for you to learn from.

HAHAHAAA!

ps......please, no letter bombs!

Oh I know what the problem is.. your fish tank is too small and you need a 75 gallon tank. Also maybe your snake is lonely and getting sick from this so it would be best to get a snake to keep him company whatever it's a ball python or a corn.

HA!

...it's obvious his snake is one of those hybrids tha just hasn't figgered out what the hell it is.
They can all be cured with alcohol (the snake, it's problems, and the keeper and his) I bet.

I tried to fix the problems with my floor by drinking...but after regurging a glass of rum, the floors even worse...

You might want to try crickets or guppies. Also, check with the Petco to verify its lineage!!!

Don't worry, nobody really knows what it is, but we all know it's a snake, so just fill up 1/2 the aquarium with hot water and put a log with some dry ice on it in it, you know, so it can have a choice of a warm, wet side or a dry, cold side. Also, try feeding it crickets scented with tuna juice, it always works for me, and for the stuck shed, I'd use duct tape, that stuff works on anything! I have printed all this and more on a care sheet that I sell for more than Bluerosy's morphs, but it's way worth it!
Also, I'm certain from your description and the FACT that you got it at a totally respectable store that specializes in reptiles, that it is an exact locality, pure, het for lots of cool stuff Mexican kingsnake or milksnake, ratsnake, or pine/bull/gopher snake that may be a natural cross, 'cause, well, they ALL are! TRUST me! I know, I've been at this since I was a lot younger than I am now, and know all there is about all of them. just because I never go out in the field doesn't mean I don't know my way around a deli cup, and believe me, I've been to a show once or twice.
Please disregard all advice given in this thread, as we have been drinking alcohol, instead of rubbing it on the burns of the previously aforementioned snake!
Happy New Years, ya' dang Kangsnake lovers!

P.s. Post a few out of focus pictures with your crappy cell phone so we can all guess what it isn't tomorrow over Bloody Marys! Be sure and get a belly shot and move the paraphernalia out of the shot so we can concentrate.
also, use a heat pad along with the lamp, just let it float to the the bottom and put the lamp on the log and put a floating thermometer in there, you know, so we can adjust the temps later.
anyway, your snake should be brumating, or as we call it, hibernating about now. if it's a little skinny, that's okay, cause they shut completely down in the winter no matter the temp, they use an internal sundial to tell the seasons!

Obviously, WE don’t want them to burn themselves, but if you are keeping them properly, they must have choice to burn themselves. The snakes may choose to not shed, it is not about what we as keepers want. And of course a snake with a runny nose SHOULD sneeze. It would be wrong to not let them sneeze if they want to. Brooks or corn, what is that REALLY? Just a name given by inadequate keepers who do everything wrong??? It is just a snake, being a snake. Allow it to be a snake. I raised them in a house I helped my Daddy build before I was born, and I never called them anything but snakes. I didn’t even care what they were, still don’t know or care. But I let them tell me what they want and need. Are you doing it right? No! Nobody does except me! And I did it first.
