Hi Folks: a few Qs:

1. How does one find and subscribe to Vivarium Magazine? Can't find the website or anyone who sells it.

2. FF media is turning "liquidy" after about a week to 2 of producing flies. Plus it smells fermented. Its Eds formula. temps about 75, never in direct sunlight, but not placed in darkness. Whats up with it?

3. My male Imitator is very love hungry. He chases, tries to mount, calls, wrestles with the female. And she is terribly uninterested-running away, kicking him off and just plain has the headache every night. You think she's Ok? Asides from having parasites recently, and have been treated for, they seem to be doing fantastic. Nice and fat, super active, and never shy. What her problem?

4. How would one introduce safe incidentals into the viv-such as mushrooms, lichens, duckweed, and liverwort into a dart tank? I've got wild Liverwort outside, but is it safe to put in the tank? Will the dry Lichen on my exisisting wood become live after its been in the tank's wet environment a while? Is duckweed safe in the dart tank, & how do you pregnate the wood with shrooms that are beneficial?

Just a few questions I'm wondering about. Thanks if you can help with any of them.

1. I am trying to find out the same thing, maybe it is not in production anymore...

2. Contact Eds about the medium, i've heard they are very nice and helpful. I have not worked with Eds medium.

3. Are you sure you don't have two males imitators? I just got mine, so I can not speak for any breeding habbits.

4. No clue there, but I am always interested in adding new things to my tanks.

Not a lot of answers, but what the heck...

1. Vivarium was bought on bye reptiles a few years ago they don't make it any more reptiles magazine has said that they incorporated Vivarium into their..but I am sorry Vivarium was a step above reptiles and reptiles is still well...reptiles

2. I also you eds and I have found them when the weather out side me any ways get muggy the media tends to suck up the water..just me theory but I have started making mine on the drier side and everything seems to be working out now,

3. I would also have to agree with Kyle here...are you shore you don't have 2 males ?most dart frogs and as far as I now no dendrobates mount..epidobotes do but I have never heard it in dendrobates...not saying i am not wrong though.

4. I have used duck weed bought at pet stores in my tank..but I am paranoid about putting stuff from the outside in with my little jems

Reptiles has its moments. If it wasnt for their issue covering how to make a shorline vivarium, I wouldnt have had the seed planted in my brain for my golden mantella tank. That tank is the best thing to happen to me involving my frogs. Im allways looking forward to the next column of "the living vivarium" because it always gets me thinking or tells me about some new plant or soil mix. In fact, Maggie if you can find it, get your hands on this months issue. There is a terrific article all about vivarium fungi. So dont knock reptiles magazine, especially when its the best we can get!

I get it, but like I said it is mostly only good for snake info.
I'd like to see a magazine more dart specific, or virvarium specific.

I agree, that would be awesome. Not enough market for a magazine like that though unfortunately.

I have gotten many ideas tat i use to this day from many the articles (anura related or not)that i use in my frog tanks.

Just think of it as a special treat when something frog (Dart frog) related is in an issue.

I know that vivarium magazine is no loger in circulation. I think that it is now called Reptile magazine.

Hi,
I'm not sure this will be in the same order as your questions but here goes.I have never seen my male imitator chasing the female when he wants her close he calls to her and she goes to him.On the media, mine was doing the same thing and was producing alot of fruit flies but when I would turn the culture over to dump the flies out the media started to run. This was during the hot weather also. What I did was add some cardboard and it helped to suck up some moisture so I could get the flies out.I have used wood from outside without any major treatment and it worked fine,it even is growing some kind of moss and looks cool.Sometimes we can be too careful and paranoid about some thing we add to our tanks. That's my 2 cents worth........Mark W.
