Most anticipated project for 2010.....?

JKruse Jan 01, 2010 02:58 AM

I was curious what hopes and anticipations my herp brethren have for this new year with respect to breeding projects......so why not show it off and, of course, keep us posted along the way?!?

Assuming brumation/husbandry practices are in check, I hope we all have a great year as well as appreciate our captives for all the hard work THEY do as well.

Let's see some pics of what's in store for later this year!

If I may -- my most anticipated progenies will be from these unusual "anerythristic" black and white Sierra mountain kingsnakes (L. zonata multicincta). As we have seen posted once here before, the hatchling's red color are instead a peach-pink, which go through a rather rapid ontogenetic change rendering the snake virtually completely black and white. Very cool snakes indeed and a true rarity amongst zonata.

Normal zonata multicincta (Greenhorn locality)

Now let's see what YOU have in store......

To produce more hyperythristics! I am the only one in the world with them.

LOL!

Seriously, I have so many anticipated projects of new Florida kings it boggles my mind. I have learned to just sit back and see what tghe good lord surprises me with this year.

I think part of it is good planning with creating hets and then more hets every season. I have really sped things up with the Florida king morphs and patience of raising hets is the secret. Those that don't want to work with hets have to pay the price and for many years to come yet.

When it comes to multi hets egg hathcinbg time after 2 years of hard work and feeding all pays off.

The one I'm most looking forward too is seeing mosiacs worked into hypos or sulphurs or amels!! I can't wait for you or Dmong to produce some.

Jeff Schofield Jan 01, 2010 12:13 PM

No pics necessary as my Bell line "mystery double hets" are big enough to produce this year. I literally have no idea what to expect only that they are "mystery" double hets. Should be fun!

JKruse Jan 01, 2010 02:45 PM

you have all the flavors locked on these things.......maybe a tooty-frooty morph in due time....?

Well, I'm always anticipating something but I don't know which most I guess...
I always like to get a clutch or two south FL mole kings (L.c.occipitolineata) and this year I hope to get a representative clutch from my Alabama locale mole kings (L.c.rhombomaculata) though they are not as colorful as my Georgia, N.Carolina, or Florida panhandle ones..
I'm also adding (hopefully he's up to it), a wc male Apalachicola king to the colony of breeders. Kinda anxious to see what he fathers. Patternless female will be bred to another patternless male and we hope to get some nice hatchlings from that pair as well.
Southern hognose are hit and miss lately with me, so yeah, I'd be pleased to get a few eggs.....
Actually since my "output" was so low last year, ALL of my pairings are making me anxious. It's been a decent winter so far..
Mandarin rats,amel pines,etc.
I'm hoping for a good year with them all.
Best of luck to everyone else!

That killer multicincta project will be VERY interesting to see what happens man!

I anticipate some great things this year as well. I'll be producing more outstanding "high-yellow" brooksi, hopefully some Outer Banks(sticticeps), hopefully some sweet aberrants will be produced as well. I also look forward to several awesome Honduran morphs this year too, "pearls"(triple homozygous amel x anery x hypo). Some hybinos(possibly some tricolor hybinos too), some extreme ghosts will also be possible this year, and I cannot WAIT to prove the aberrant hypo trait to be recessively inherent!. More kick-ass "extreme" hypos will of course be produced again this year as well. I was VERY happy about these guys this year.

Look forward to more of these gems!

This killer swirly hypo male is all grown-up now, and is only waiting for his female sib to put on some more size.

here is a fairly recent pic of him

People, they don't GET any better than this!. This was my hold-back "extreme" male I produced this year.

Yes, My sticticeps line are a composite of several well known bloodlines from Ocracoke Island, and Cape Hatteras localities.

The only ones I have that I know will be ready to go in 2010 are some house snakes possible het albino. Makes it easy to choose my most anticipated project At the rate my florida's are growing, maybe early 2011, but I doubt 2010. And the retics...well, that'll be 2012 before Citrus is ready I think. Large snakes can take a bit

JKruse Jan 01, 2010 02:35 PM

I shouldve mentioned that I reallybwasnt pin-pointing Lampro, and am glad you've got something else in the mix as well. I'm also a retic fan, just no room and my wife would have a coniption anyway with such monstrosities. I maym however, try to pull off a super-dwarf tiger retic in the near future for a pet. Always loved 'em. Good on ya mate!

beg forgiveness I was looking at the SD's but damn I like the big mainlands more, with the yellow heads and silver/gold/black patterns...ooooh so sexy. Seleyars are the closest thing to a dwarf that have the look I really like. And they're hard to find

Jlassiter Jan 01, 2010 02:25 PM

With the combination of Shannon's & my Mex Mex....We should have some Never seen before Mex Mex start to emerge in 2010....And many holdbacks for future project breeding....

I don't there's anyone else out there with all these Mex Mex ingredients.......I think this should prove to be fun next year at hatch time.....

The "goal" phenotype for me is a Black - Hypo-E - Granite Mex Mex....Which should be a black snake with Pink speckles.....
But a black snake with Pink Saddles (Black/Hypo-E) will be cool too....Or a Hypo-E/Granite......
It may take a few generations to get to the "goal" but it looks like it will be FUN getting there.....

Thanks for the compliment Jerry.....
And good luck with the Zonata because I sure want to get some next year.....

Nice Zonata Bro

As far as Kings go and some people may not like the idea of this project. Anery X Long Blotched Alterna. I think an Anery Long Blotched would be killer. Of course this it will be a long process to get there but hopefully some day.

Happy New Year to all you kingsnake nuts out there. Looks like some very interesting projects in the works. Jerry: I am definitely interested in obtaining some of the locality black zonata if you will have any available. Please contact me at BLB1029@cs.com
I am strictly into locality specific kingsnakes as well as locale specific rats and pituophis. My most anticipated projects for 2010 is locality specific LaFourche Parish Louisiana speckled kings. I acquired several subadults and two, what turned out to be gravid females from Jeff LeCompte in early 2000. In addition to the subadults, I kept several babies back from the two clutches and now have a breeding group of about ten LaFourche's. Hopefully, I will get a clutch or two in 2010.
I also have a pair of Huntsville, Alabama locality Eastern Black Kings (L.g. nigra) that should produce this year that I am looking forward to.
AND, I acquired a pair of Brevard Cty Florida locality specific Florida kings from Buddy Grout that are ready to breed this year. The male of this pair is very light and just a beautiful king. I am very anxious to see what this pair may produce this year. I will definitely be holding some of these back.
Also have a breeding group of Edisto Island South Carolina locale Eastern Kings that I drove from Pennsylvania to Edisto to pick up from Heyward Clamp two years ago. I produced two babies this year and hope to produce several more clutches this coming year.
Always something interesting going on here with the locale kings. If anyone has any questions regarding these projects or any others that I am working with, don't hesitate to contact me at the above E-mail address.

Joe, that milk snake is just sick. AWESOME!! And locale to boot. I know of a hypo LTT that was found close to some of my board sets last year and I am crossing my fingers and toes that something cool shows up this year.

Joe_M Jan 02, 2010 08:54 AM

Thanks and good luck Joe. Any pics of the hypo that was found?
-----
Joe

joecop Jan 02, 2010 08:31 PM

Joe, unfortunately the snake was injured when it was found and died a couple of days later. I think a know who has it in their freezer though. The snake almost looked like a white sided LTT and was a small juvenile.

joecop Jan 01, 2010 07:39 PM

That is hard to pick. Several subs of Zonata should be breeding this year. Knoblochi, maybe to locales of pyros, two different locales of eastern kings (w/c adults by myself so locale is DEFINITE), some puebs, ect. The Z's are the most exciting for me, but next year should bring many more pairings. Jerry, those black and whites are just awesome. Simply awesome my man.

varanid Jan 01, 2010 08:05 PM

hopefully in 2013 I can produce purple tigers and super tigers (retics), and hopefully by 2012, if Dmong produces more of those KILLER hi yellows of his I can see what effect those animal's genetics will have on hypos and amels. With the totally absurd amazing colors they display...wow. What a result from selective breeding. Jaw dropping in their own right and really, they might help make some morphs even better.

Wow, lots of cool stuff going into this next season. Looking forward to Brewster county locality Mexican hogs by the boatload and some Langtry locality alterna that Carston Zee Zoldy collected with me in tow. River Road alterna from Chris Garcia, Calhoun county locality specks, and Hebbronville locality splendidas round out the list of toppers, and the Mexican bairdi. Lots of locality subocs, and the continued race for striped P.e.meahlmorrims. I wanna see some alterna hatchlings up in here!
