Hognose bite...

Gregg_M_Madden Jan 01, 2010 05:24 PM

I was just wondering if anyone on this site has ever heard of anyone being hosptalized for a hognose bite??? Someone on a UK forum claims they were hospitalized and are now suffering from permanent "lymphnode damage" due to a bite from a hognose snake...

Personally I think it is load of crap... Wondering if anyone has any literature that covers a serious hognose bite like this...

Well the problem here was the guy let him chew on him for 3-5 minutes before he put him under some water. What the heck? Of course there is going to be a reaction.

I agree with you 100%, But there was a reaction non the less and I am sure many of us have been bit by counless snakes over the years with little to no reaction.. Now, i am not saying that letting a snake chew on you for 3 to 5 is smart, but the outcome is certainly it is food for thought.. No?

Happy 2010!

I agree with you as well. I hear that some people have more of an allergic reaction to the venom and some people have no problem with it. Even if he was mildly allergic, it's like letting a bee sting you for 3-5 minutes. I understand your point though, I'm glad his swelling finally went down.

Allergic reaction?

Developing an allergic reaction to venom requires consistent exposure to it - people who own spitters or snakes than inject large quantities can be exposed to dried residue and develop an allergy.

All of this continued forum talk about allergic reactions to hognose venom is bunk. The symptoms described - swelling, itching, tenderness and pain are symptoms of the mild venom they possess.

Just ouch! Why would you wait so long? I scream after 3 to 5 seconds!

Most of the stuff on that forum is crap ,The person who got the bite is never willing to post any hard facts on the matter , im sure they exaggerated just to gain kudos on a forum full of easily led sheep . Gregg have you tried directly asking the guy to post on the matter ? even maybe pm him first to get his side, he seems reluctant to post publicly on the matter and justs leaves it to the sheep to bleat out when ever a hog bite related post appears.
Happy new year all btw.

I have a few hungry hogs that love to bite me. Before getting into hogs I did a lot of research and never found anything supporting a hog bite causing any damage. I did see the same thing posted about the guy letting his hog chew on his finger. Im not saying they dont have venom by an means. but I dont see any way one could ever bite you and inject venom unless you let it. The delivery system is way to poor.
