Hmmm?, just received this email

DMong Jan 04, 2010 02:51 PM

I just received this email concerning the so-called "python ban", and it looks to me as though this is his round-about way of saying...."I "appreciate" your input here Douglas, but screw you and the rest of the people that don't want to see this legislation go through, because I want to get the majority of votes and publicity from the general public that hate snakes and do not care about being able to own a snake, or snakes in the least".

The letter goes as follows..........

Below is a response to the recent comments I received from you:

Dear Mr. Mong:

Thank you for sharing your views regarding nonnative-invasive species, and the commercial trade of pythons. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to respond to your concerns.

Nonnative wildlife species, like Burmese pythons, could cause great damage to threatened species and their habitat because they have no natural predators. On February 3, 2009, Senator Bill Nelson (R-FL) introduced S. 373, which would amend title 18 of the United States Code to include pythons as an injurious animal. Furthermore, this legislation would prohibit pythons from being shipped or imported into the United States. S. 373 was referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works where it awaits further action. Although I am not a member of this committee, I will work with my colleagues from the Florida delegation and the Department of the Interior to remove invasive species like Burmese pythons from Florida.

It is an honor and privilege to serve the people of the great State of Florida in the United States Senate. I take great pride in being a native Floridian, and I look forward to the tremendous opportunity to better the lives of all Floridians. I assure you I will work hard to represent our state to the best of my ability in the U.S. Senate. If I can be of any further help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

George S. LeMieux
United States Senator

From Cornyn:

Dear Mr. White:

Thank you for contacting me regarding legislation to regulate the importation of certain exotic or non-native animal species. I appreciate having the benefit of your views on this matter.

As you know, several measures that would regulate the importation of exotic wildlife are currently under consideration. The Nonnative Wildlife Invasion Prevention Act (H.R. 669) would direct the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to evaluate the risk of a nonnative species before approving it for importation—a measure aimed at curtailing the invasion of local ecosystems by foreign species with no natural predators. Similarly, Senate Bill 373 (S. 373) would designate python snakes as an “injurious species” under the United States Code, thereby banning the species from being shipped or imported into the U.S.

I understand the importance of protecting our environment and population against the incursion of invasive species; however, I am concerned that these measures may not provide the flexibility required for Texas’ legitimate wild and exotic animal enterprises such as the pet industry, zoos, game ranches, and wildlife conservation activities. Historically, state laws and local ordinances have been established to regulate pet and wildlife ownership, and I believe that governance over this matter should be reserved for state and local entities.

I appreciate having the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate, and you may be certain that I will keep your thoughts in mind should the Senate consider these or other relevant pieces of legislation during the 111th Congress. Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,

JOHN CORNYN
United States Senator

Hutchinson hasn't ever emailed me. It's obviously canned but hell, it's something. And it looksl ike he's with us.

Yeah, your reply from him seems worded as though he IS in our corner in regards to the issue, whereas mine doesn't seem to be.

I guess when you road cruise and find pythons crossing the road it could be called invasive.

More like when you deal with politicians it would be called evasive. All I received was a thank you for emailing, blah, blah, blah and a phone number. Great, huh?

if you're referring to Cornyn, he explicitly states he feels it is a state matter, not a federal one, so he won't vote for it.

DMong Jan 04, 2010 05:58 PM

Yes, that is how I interpreted it as well, whereas this George S. LeMieux senator from Florida looks to be in FAVOR of the ban(which ain't good).

"The whole "invasive" term is a bad one and already inplies this will go through"

Well, The "beat around the bush" way this Florida Senator worded his view in my letter certainly doesn't look real promising as far as being able to count on him for anything positive, but who knows what the outcome will be when all the votes from the others around the nation are tallied-up.

Damn Doug, your guy did the old Marion Barry (D.C. crack head mayor) routine and completely blew it all off and made his standard general politician statement. They are so good at avoiding having to answer questions.

DMong Jan 04, 2010 06:27 PM

Yeah, the side-stepping way he phrased things was the first thing I noticed too..LOL!

"I will do what is BEST for Floridians" .........my ARSE!!!!!

He will do what is "best" to gain the acceptance of the mojority of the idiots that know NOTHING about any of it, other than they hate snakes and other reptiles too. It's typical politician BS. He probably thinks he would be risking sticking his neck out if he did other freakin wise!(again, like most politicians). Every one is always so afraid of being different so they can stay in the game and be liked by the greater percentage of the masses...LOL!

This thing is no different than ANY other issue, it all comes down to freakin popularity, NOT what is most beneficial.

In other words, all for me and none for you. Politicians, legal crooks and idiots!

Scott

joecop Jan 04, 2010 07:22 PM

No doubt Scott. Biggest crooks on the planet. The higher up they are, the more throats they have cut to get there. I don't trust a single one them. NONE.

SDeFriez Jan 04, 2010 07:28 PM

That they are Joe! Their only interest is not what they can do for the people and our rights, but how much they can line their pockets.
