here is what i received (sorry doug it would take me 45 min on my comp to read your post ,so i assume its similar)

Dear Mr. Davidsen:

Thank you for sharing your views regarding nonnative-invasive species, and the commercial trade of pythons. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to respond to your concerns.

Nonnative wildlife species, like Burmese pythons, could cause great damage to threatened species and their habitat because they have no natural predators. On February 3, 2009, Senator Bill Nelson (R-FL) introduced S. 373, which would amend title 18 of the United States Code to include pythons as an injurious animal. Furthermore, this legislation would prohibit pythons from being shipped or imported into the United States. S. 373 was referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works where it awaits further action. Although I am not a member of this committee, I will work with my colleagues from the Florida delegation and the Department of the Interior to remove invasive species like Burmese pythons from Florida.

It is an honor and privilege to serve the people of the great State of Florida in the United States Senate. I take great pride in being a native Floridian, and I look forward to the tremendous opportunity to better the lives of all Floridians. I assure you I will work hard to represent our state to the best of my ability in the U.S. Senate. If I can be of any further help to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

George S. LeMieux
United States Senator

Here is what I got:

Dear Mr. Dobry:

Thank you for writing me about the classification of pythons. I appreciate hearing from you.

As you know, pythons are not native to North America. However, in the United States, many pythons have been both intentionally and accidentally freed into the wild. In some states, the population of these feral pythons has increased rapidly in the past decade. The Everglades alone are estimated to have a population of 150,000 pythons. These snakes can have a severe impact on the native bird and mammal wildlife that are not equipped to handle a non-native predator.

In February 2009, Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) introduced S. 373. This piece of legislation would amend the federal criminal code to add pythons to the list of injurious species that are prohibited from being shipped or imported into the United States. In December 2009, this legislation was approved by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. While this legislation would help to limit the number of feral pythons, I also understand that it would have a significant impact on citizens who responsibly keep these animals as pets.

Please know that if S. 373 or related legislation comes before the full Senate for consideration, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. Again, thank you for contacting me and please stay in touch. If you would like to know more about my work in the Senate, please sign up for my weekly update, at http://murray.senate.gov/updates.

I hope all is well in Palouse.

Sincerely,
Patty Murray
United States Senator

To me this is not a good sign.
