Just got back in Dec .The University of Puerto Rico has a study Island off La Parguera There is also a bioluminesent bay there. You can't go on the island. but goto see Johnie at the pier he'll take you around the iguanas for 10 bucks a person they run up on the docks to see you. Bio bay is different tour again at same area 10 bucks again at night, you can swim in the water and it illuminates from the plancton. clean hotels for 58.00 a night goto little store across from piers to get room I'll try to dig up name later tonight.I personally loved it.Just want to get on island there are tons of them.(Maybe call university to see if you can go on ,I found out about it at last minute)It's like a hundred yards off shore.Bring plastic to cover cameras.I'm going back in Oct to go to Mona talking to rangers now to get permits they only let so many people out at a time no lodging just camping..dropped off one day picked up a couple later takes real good planning.Rinco was awesome bring watershoes coral bottom hard on the feet..Great surf..Lady at surf shop has good photo's on Mona of cyclura..She used to go there all the time..I'll dig up all the imformation later tonight.I hope your trip is as awesome as mine was.P.S. It is whale season off Rinco right now they feed by there.I have photo's I just have problems loading on this site..
the hotel in La Parguera is the Nautilus.link is www.nautilushotelpr.com .you can bring beer on boats if you drink.A good site if you never been to PR is www.elyunque.com.If you find other cyclura areas please post them. thank you.
It sounds like you are referring to Magueyes island, the one island off Puerto Rico with a thriving colony of introduced Cuban Iguanas. Your post renewed my interest and I found this link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isla_Magueyes
If you google map it, you can get a good view of the island in the satelite mode. The island is so close to shore, I would think that the iguanas are also on the mainland and on nearby islands in that area.

Yes thats it. The story I got was it was a Zoo in the 50's then the university took it over .There are videos on you tube with my guide Johnie giving other people the tour.Planning my trip back in Oct. already. To me totally worth the effort to see.But I was digging everything else from crested anoles to the feral green igs. There is a good site simply called reptiles of Puerto Rico. links to good photos.Kind of lets you know whats there on some of the island.
can you post of the links to these other sites ?
reptiles of puerto rico is .... wiipedia.org/wiki/ list_of_amphibians_reptiles_of_puerto_rico ..as for isla magueyes video they are on you tube just put in isla magueyez it will bring up a bunch of cool ones
Interestingly enough is the fact that even though the population on Mayaguez has only been established for about 50-60 years the social structure is already quite different from mainland Cuban Cyclura n. nubila. Is this evolution at work in such a short time? Over time will they turn into something different? Only time will tell...
