Kansas herping

KevColubrid Jan 06, 2010 05:07 PM

Hey everyone,

So it's below freezing in Wichita right now, and I'm suffering from bored wintertime herper syndrome. Any Kansas herpers want to talk...herping? It's how I typically pass the time until next season.

will you accept a Texan? I'm in the northern part of the state if that matters...and my brother in law's a Jayhawk
It's been getting into the teens at night here, and into the 30's during the days...no herping yet I've got a handful of places I want to try picked out for spring though...maybe this year I can finally find a kingsnake in the field!! One of very few native snakes that's eluded me in my time up here.

Yeah, I'll accept a texan I'm a missourian, only in Kansas by technicality. I've always had good luck with kingsnakes in Kansas, prarie kings and speckled kings both. What kind are you looking for? Texas speckled kings are really good looking snakes for sure. I always thought they were pretty common around Brazos county.

Kevin I will be in Kansas (Wichita)around the 26-28 of March for the Kansas Association of Taxidermists annual competition. I go back to Kansas just about every year. I am always looking for more pics of snakes from Kansas for my site. Plus my mom still lives there and I love the hunting & fishing as well as herping.

Too bad I didn't find this thread a couple months ago, being as winter is over now, but still kinda chilly out. I'm a Kansas herper, turned Texas herper, now Kansas herper again heh. Recently moved up to Lawrence, hoping to get into some copperheads and some timbers this year. Also trying to get some angles worked to go herp the gyp hills down in Barber county this summer. Anyone ever been down there?
