Two Wahlberg Gecko Babies!

dancetoday Sep 19, 2003 11:03 AM

I now have two Wahlberg Velvet Gecko babies that hatched out two nights apart. The parents are imported and I've had them for two years. For those who don't know, Wahlbergs are cool because the pair are very bonded to each other. When I first got them, the male kept escaping (they're now in a large vivarium which is escape proof, that was a temporary cage) but he would always come back in a day or two and sit on top of the cage where she was- this doesn't happen when a crested or other lizard escapes. The other unusual thing about them is the long incubation period of the eggs. But I actually didn't even know that any eggs had been laid with these guys. They live in a nice vivarium with dirt and plants and these babies hatched out on their own!

Does anyone have experience raising baby Wahlbergs? Do you know if their coloration stays the same? I'm trying to decide if I can tell if they are male or female from their pattern. One looks definitely female. The other looks sort of in-between the male and female pattern of the parents.

Thanks. -Lucy

They're definately neat little guys. Good luck with them!
