Thayeri Future & Past...

Jlassiter Jan 07, 2010 09:32 PM

I also have a REAL passion for the most variable snake there is (IMHO).....

I took the plunge in 1997 to purchase some of these knowing they weren't as easy as a corn or caliking to keep/breed.....

I produced my first clutches in 1998 and my last clutch in 2006 prior to my 4 year hiatus from the hobby......

Here are the ones I hope to see produce for me this year as well as some oldies but goodies that are no longer with us....

I hope you all enjoy these as much as you did the Mex Mex.....

John, I had a few nice thayeri pass through my collection over the years and never developed that much of a love for them. I think the extreme variability is what turned me off of them LOL!! I DO like those mexmex you posted, especially the dark ones!!

LOL!! I like reds and yellows too!! Another issue I had with the thayeri here in LA is fecundity. A friend of mine who is into the mexicana complex has told me he has off years getting some of his mexicana complex animals to breed reliably or at all. He thinks it may be a cooling issue. He has produced some nice stuff, but appears to complain about lack of success a bit with the thayeri more than his mexmex.

My females breed every year without fail. Of course I'm in Philly and it gets really cool in my brumation room......so I think the warm winters are your problem out there..Mike Bodner

A friend of mine gave them to me as he had to move. As I was told they came from Ric Blair lines.

I, too believe it is a cooling issue, although FR thinks they don't need it at all.......

I live further south than Louisiana...Down here in South Texas we have very mild winters so I have to artificially cool them.....It seems to work, so I will continue.....LOL
