evolutionary venom research

kaguilli Jan 08, 2010 08:22 AM

Hi, I am a recent college grad, looking to apply to graduate school. I am very interested in snake venom, mainly the evolutionary aspect of its development. I was hoping someone could help with some direction as to whom I should talk to about my continuing studies. Any information on graduate professors or programs (in the U.S.) interested in conducted this type of research or any related to it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Steve Mackessey, UNC Greeley. Sharp guy and a nice person. Good for at least a chat to get you going.

I hope you have a *solid* chemistry foundation. Without it, forget it.

Best,
Jimi

To do proper venom research, you'll need to get some molecular biology or biochemistry under your belt but that is not insurmountable.

Your undergrad marks will indeed be important

For US programs, try Elda Sanchez in Texas. "Elda E. Sánchez"

Cheers
