High yellow king rats?

donv Jan 08, 2010 12:13 PM

My male unexpectedly died right before I was going to cycle the pair. Anybody know of any high yellow lines out there? I saw a pic by BHB of one that appeared unusually yellow. Anybody have any experience with their king rats? Any pictures of high yellow adults? Here's the adult female, not real yellow but still nice in her own way.

I never noticed the small red dots on the ventrals before.

Real tame for a king rat. I was pushing the limits trying to get some decent pics. Even held her head trying to get the beautiful yellow chin. No signs of aggression. Any of the other king's I've handled would've likely been chewing away. When these guy's bite, there's no bluffing, they chew.

Impressive serpent. The pupil looks almost elliptical?

Very nice. My female is a possible het from Rob and Amy as well.

Very cool species that you don't see too often. You seem to have a taste for some of the beastly ratsnakes like I do. Thanks for posting.
I'll never forget an older adult pair I saw for sale at a show about 10 years ago. They were BIG, incredible looking ratsnakes.

Thanks Randy. I remember seeing a brilliant example at a pet in NY as a kid. The guy told me it was a "stinking goddess" and that it was mean as hell. I immediately wanted one.

That's the bomb! Love that look. Very sorry about your male...any ideas what happened? Always scary when it just comes out of the blue. Got any pics of him?

Also, does the "stinking godess" moniker apply?

He was a looker. Not real pleasant to handle, a real squirmer, who would bite just often enough to keep you honest. I thought he was healthy. He always ate real well. It's possible he was pretty old. I picked him up as an over 6' adult around three years ago.

Very nice compliment to the understated female...love 'em both! Thanks for posting. How big was he?
