My BIG Florida king

Marcel Poots Jan 08, 2010 12:24 PM

My new Florida king has shed and eaten so it was time for the reference pics. I am 220Lbs and 6 and a half foot in length. SAo you can see he is a big boy. My 7 year old son took the pics so please do not mind the poor quality.

He's one of the largest I've seen for sure. Thick too! Nice snake. My largest king was about 6' but i never measured exactly. That cage in the shot below was 40" (100cm) long for reference.

I think they are about the same size. My king is thick indeed. However, he has not one gram fat on him. He is pure mussle mass. I have had a reticulated python and the appetite of this king is just about the same. The way he smashed into the thawed prey was pure intimidating. Thrashing around with his tail. I thought he was going to break a window.

How is its temperament? My kings have never gotten aggressive outside of the cage, but occasionally they do get spooked and they will musk a small amount. Usually, it is not even enough to see, but does smell like rotten eggs for a minute or so... not too bad though. Nothing like a garter snake.

When he is out of the cage he is very mellow. Not high strung like I would expect. When I open the cage and mess with the water bowl or something he hisses slightly and rattles his tail. No musking so far.
