Securing the lid...

imaveggiesaurus Jan 08, 2010 10:30 PM

Hi, this is probably an insanely basic question, but also really important. I have a 10 gallon tank that I'm planning on housing a baby ball in for a few months till I can upgrade, but all I have is the basic screen lid for it. I've seen clips at petco and such, but I'm wondering if they are actually secure. I'd hate to find out they're not by having it escape. I should mention too that I don't have the snake yet and don't intend to until I have the tank completely set up, just in case someone was thinking it :D

One of my 10 gallon tanks that houses one of my Sand Boas has the same type of covering, and i use the clips to keep the lid secure. They are a pain in some ways, but they do work. Petco actually sells 10 gallon tanks that have self-locking tops and are much, much easier to use, just to let you know And when you do get your set up all set, make sure to cover the screen with plexiglass or maybe lexan, cause glass tanks lose so much heat and humidity through the scree tops. And make sure you have a thermostat to control the temps. All my animals are in glass tanks, and all are covered with plexiglass on top of the screen lids, and i haven't had an issues with any of my animals Enjoy your new Ball Python when you get him or her, i absolutely love mine!!!!

I have heard the clips work quite well. The snake isn't strong enough to bend them off and it certainly doesn't know how to pop them off. I have (for a very short period of time) used bungee cords to hold the lid on and it worked fine while the snake was small.
