CNN...the truth behind the media

Ghireptiles Jan 09, 2010 07:13 AM

This is what we are facing with the Burmese issue...sensationalism.

I was listening to CNN yesterday and was infuriated by one of the guys. He was talking about the video the iguanas dropping out of the trees in Hollywood Florida and he said that the iguanas would freeze to death and drop from the trees. He was corrected immediately by someone else there (I was listening to it on the radio) when they said the iguanas simply lost muscle control at temps around the mid 30's but most would survive. The original guy said that he knew that but his version made for better news.

In my local news people are being warned that since the cold weather is here...Burmese Pythons may be out basking so they need to be on the lookout!

In other local news...another Pit Bull attack on a dog and it's owner. Major surgery for the dog and the owner suffered superficial wounds. No investigation will take place...no warnings are given to anyone to be careful of loose vicious dogs...but watch out for those basking Burmese.

Our country is falling apart...

First, the media is a disgrace. They are no longer seekers of the truth, they are seekers of ratings (the truth be damned). As they say, never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Second, Matt you are right, our country is falling apart, in so many different ways. This is one of the ways our country keeps us distracted, from the real issues plaguing our country. The media has become a tool of the government. It is amazing how many news stories there are all of a sudden about the burmese python in the everglades, and not quite so many about our failing economy and double digit unemployment. Hmmm, wonder why that is? It is very disheartening, the direction the "land of the free" is going.

I agree about the media skewing the truth, one thing I want to point out is the real problem is not the media its the people who are working the media in there favor like HSUS. The media is dong what they do. If we could get some whales to spend on educating(nation wide syndicated commercials and radio) the public then we also can use the media in are favor. As far as the country falling apart I doubt it maybe in a bad spot at the moment but falling apart far from it.This is in no way on the scale of what was happening in the 60's.

A Satan I'm surprised you posted with all the drama going on and no explanation!

Why don't they start wrangling them? If they'll just be sitting out in the open (probably still cold) that sounds like an opportunity to me.

What are the current laws on collecting or killing these 'dangerous' snakes anyways?

I don't think all the snakes will be just lying around in the open, would really depend when the temperatures dropped low enough they choose not to move to conserve heat.

Though for tracking them...scent dogs trained to recognize the scent of Burmese pythons probably be a good help.....as long as they are big enough not to be considered food by gators LOL.
