Vern the Copperhead 1984-2010

Wyvern Jan 09, 2010 10:16 AM

Vern the Copperhead
Gender: Male

Wildcaught in August 1984 (@ ~26 inches in length).
Died January 2010 (@ ~45-46 inches in length).

Time in captivity: 25 years 5 months.

Estimated Age at time of death: 28-30 years (assuming he was between 3-5 years old at the time of capture) - possible he could have been older.

Died peacefully in his sleep sometime Thursday night or Friday morning. There was nothing to indicate that anything was wrong with him. Slight vision impairment from age related cataracts over the past few years, but overall health had been excellent. He had always been an excellent display animal with an easy-going mile temperment.

he was a really great snake. very easy going. We were kinda hoping he could have lasted another 5 years and break the known record for a copperhead in captivity (which is about 29.8 years from what I have been able to research).
