SNAKES AT SUNSET'S EFFORT

snakesatsunset Jan 09, 2010 11:11 AM

We printed out over 100 letters, and are having people sign it as they purchase feeders, etc.
The feed back I have gotten has been incredible, these people have no idea whats going on! I then proceeded to print out a sheet with all the USARK and kill s373 website. I actually had a customer call me to see if she can bring me a stack of signed letters for us to mail out for her.
IF YOU OWN A SHOP, VEND at a show, DELIVER TO STORES AS A JOBBER, etc, TAKE STACKS WITH YOU AND HAVE EVERYONE SIGN IT. Be it at burger king, the supermarket, anywhere you go have somehandy for signing.

Banning Snakes

(JOE RAEDLE, GETTY IMAGES)

Mike tends to two boa constrictors in his Snakes at Sunset store on December 10, in Miami, Florida. He opposes a bill proposed by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) that would ban giant constrictors, which today cleared a Senate panel, setting it up for a full Senate vote. The bill would make it illegal to import certain snakes, including Burmese pythons, anacondas and boa constrictors

We couldn't air a TV add on animal planet or a major network with something about the negative effect of S373 on people, and the reality/not reality behind it.

I know I've seen HSUS adds.

I wish I had the funds to offer to make such a thing possible.

I don't own a shop, but I took a stack of letters to a friend that owns one and they were happy to put them out!

What's written above is purely my opinion. In fact, MOST of what you read on the internet is someone's opinion. Don't take it too seriously

I work at one of the local pet stores part time managing the fish room. I have been harping on one of the owners for the past month about the issue trying to light a fire under their butt. I finally had to just make copies of the paperwork myself and set up a table. I have asked all the cashiers to ask anyone that comes to the check out counter with any type of reptile/bird/fish related products to see if they wanted to sign te free petition letters. Many of the customers were willing on to do so on Saturday. While the owners were not opposed to me setting up a table and having forms ready for anyone that was willing to sign them, I am quite dissapointed in the lack of initiative on the part of the store owners and even the people that actually run the reptile section of the store (I manage the fish area) to take the burden on for themselves. I am especially dissapointed since they all know full well what this would mean to the pet industry if the bill passes and that this would probably bleed over into other segments of the pet industry in the near future (fish, birds, small animals). I'm not sure yet how many signed petitions I will have ready to overnight by Monday, but I do know that I am trying my best to help in our cause. Since we are located so close to the Ohio/Indiana state line, I have made copies for our Ohio customers to sign as well. I will also be spending as much of my own time as possible at the store on Sunday pushing the letters.
