Can I put my Dubia in with my Gold dust day gecko???

gecko_gal Sep 19, 2003 12:16 PM

Hello, Im sure this answer is probably NO, but incase it is poss,im going to ask anyway.I have a Dubia male day gecko who lives with my Jewelled Curly tailed lizards, and I have a male Gold dust day gecko, who lives with my African fat tails, the two males are happy healthy & very colourful, my prob is my Gold dust does not have a UV, but my Dubia does, also there is more space in the Dubias viv, so I was wondering if it might be safe to put the gold dust in with my Dubia, as they both seem like they could do with some day gecko company!,the prob is even though they are different species, they are both males!!!???????????, so what should I do???
Thanks for any advice & help!*

...pretty much no to everything.

You need uv lighting, unless your willing to go out everyday with your gecko, and let it bask outside....wich you probably wont do.

no mixing with AFT's

no mixing males

no mixing with curly tail lizards unless its a huge enclosure

.....doesnt make sense to me. If you dont have the space, dont buy the gecko! Your best bet is to buy another 20g, plus the flourescent, incandeascent, substrate, plants, etc, ete, etc.

How big are the tanks anyway?

i was told by our pet shop that they would be fine in with the lizards each are in with & sure enough, ive had no problems, in fact this may surprise you, but all our lizards are so tame, they all get on with each other, the day geckos scamper about the walls of their vivs, i have a pic of my male curly tail & my dubia sitting beside each other, i monitored them, to find they happily enjoyed each others company, believe me if my animals did not get on, or were not happy, i would know the signs!.
I just wished to know, because they are so tame, if even with the size difference, it was poss for them to be in same viv? They are well loved & cared for, and i have had moments were they will let me stroke them & even jump on my hand!.
Ive been told not to worry about my gold dust not getting uv, as he does in a way get some, because all the vivs are in the same room, the livingroom, reflecting each other!.
I feed them small powdered crix, mealies, waxies & even moths, they LOVE the moths!.
The viv for gold dust is 24 l, by 17 h
the dubias is 23 l,by 24 h
I will in the future seperate them in their own vivs, as I want to give them more space, but they honestly do seem happy the way they are!!!

...your taking advice from petshops. All they care about is the money, not the animals.

I never listen to what they tell you in a pet shop. They want you to buy more and more animals from them. The more animals you can cram into one tank is best for them because that means you'll be willing to buy more.
They put several different types of reptiles in one tank for display purposes and for space reasons.

Hello, I have had a lot of people bug me about the fact that my geckos are kept with other animals, but I can honestly say, ITS NOT A PROBLEM!, as they are all very happy & healthy & I shall be looking into getting them mates in the future*.

Sorry, you asked about my Jewelled Curly tailed lizards?,well we did our research & also found there was not much about them!,we bought them & put them in a tall viv with ample climbing space, the substrate is peat & rainforest bark chips,we discovered several things about them, they love to dig & burry in the peat, they love to climb & they love to soak in water!.Our female was gravid when we got her,we were unaware of this!,she laid & is gravid again, we just heard the eggs have hatched from her 1st pair, they lay 2 eggs, hidden burried in the peat.Tame wise the male lets me stroke him, but the female is a bit more nervous, they are in great health, their colours are brighter than ever*,they eat small crix & mealies & waxies all powdered, they are wonderful entertaining, very active little lizards, a real joy to own***, their has been no problems keeping them in with my Dubia day gecko, as they all get on*
Well cant think of anything else, please question anything else you wish to know?

Here is a pic of my pair of Jewelled Curly tailed lizards, names
Neo & Trinity*

Hi,
well sorry its late reply, but im unable to get u pics of set up the now!, as im not using same PC details are held.
Im in UK, were are you?, the baby that hatched is a female, she is doing fine, it seems curly tails like peat & rainforest substrate, so as long as they have a fairly moist environment they are happy*
They are not too hard too look after, but hard to find as pets!, your right not enough is known about them, i cant find out how long they live!!!
well, if you need anymore info

my e-mail is gecko_gal22@yahoo.com

Hi,
just keep in mind that the UV rays that your lizards need do not travel thru glass, therefore every enclosure you have needs its own full spectrum UV light on top. I know the day geckos require this but I do not know about the curly-tails.......
