Kingsnake size

dburdick Jan 10, 2010 08:01 PM

I have an Eastern Kingsnake 4'-5" long that weighs 963 grams; also a Black Kingsnake 3'-9" long that weighs 640 grams. Both snakes are about 4 years old, active and in good health. I feed the Eastern 2-3 adult mice and the Black King 2 adult mice every 2 weeks. The Black King usually refuses more than 2 mice and the Eastern would even eat more! My concern is that I do not want to overfeed the Eastern and get him too fat. Is this about the expected or right size and weight for the Eastern King? - the Black King? Thanks much for your response. Don

I would say that the black king is ok. King snakes are very food motivated so i can totally belive that the eastern is wanting more. I have a 6 foot male corn that only gets a adult mouse once a week and he is all muscle. I would say that if your eastern is still active and does not look over weight, then keep feeding like you are. The only way to know if the snake is too heavy is the looks. You will actually be able to see fat bulges in the curves of the snake.
Hope this helps you

Thanks

fat buldges? You mean kind of like a fat person has rolls? I don't mean to offend, but I've never actually seen an oversized snake before, and now I'm curious after reading that. lol
