Where would you go if you were a snake???

newsnakemom Sep 19, 2003 12:41 PM

My daughter put Ranger back in his cage last night, and this morning I went to turn on his light, and noticed that he is not in his cage. She did not make sure that all of the clips were secure. We looked for him under all of the beds, dressers and backpacks this morning, but did not find him, and everyone had to leave to go to school, work etc...
When I get home, can you give some ideas of where to look for him? Or how to get him to come out of hiding??
Thanks for your help. I hope we find him before my dachshund does.

Too bad your dachs isn't a pointer.

Think under something or between two somethings where quarters are very tight. Dark is common but not required. The last time one of my snakes got out, I found it in a closet in the next room between two boxes. Good luck.

is the snake small enuogh to crawl under the bedroom door? If so, make some coffee. It's going to be a long night. If it can't get under the door, check in shoes and under piles of clothes. I wonder if you put the dog on the leash and ran it around the house if it would follow a scent trail. Isn't that a type of hound?

good luck

Yes, I think he is small enough to fit under the door. I guess I know what I will be doing all weekend. Should I put a heeting pad on the floor by his cage. How long do I have to find him before he gets too cold? He is probably hungry, it is time for him to eat. He only eats live mice. How could I lure him with a mouse?

I am by no means a snake expert, but.........

Many years ago I had a snake dissapear. I found him 2 months later curled up in the bottom of my bird cage. He had gotten in between the bars, eaten a bird and was too fat to get back out again.

If your snake is only eating live mice, I would suggest a plastic tub that a mouse can't climb out of and a lid on it with a couple small holes cut into it (or something like wire shelving with bars wide enough for the snake as a lid). Small enough for the snake to just fit into, but not big enough for him to get back out of after a good meal. I would also put a heat pad under 1/2 the box and hope that he would just curl up in the box after his meal.

My girl always goes into the top shelf of my closet under my wedding dress when she gets out.
