Mali Health

LunaicanLady Jan 11, 2010 09:05 PM

I have two Mali Uromasytx, the male is a couple inches bigger than the female and recently she's lost alot of weight. Theres little fat left in her tail and her hips and spine are both prominent. Her stomach also seems to be distended.

The two of them are on birdseed as thier substrate, they have a really hot basking place of a tile and a low box as a hide on the other end of the tank.

Besides the obvious weight loss, are there any other symptoms? Any eggs burried in the substrate? The abdomen distention is likely a regular gut (these guys are gut fermentators and thus it's nearly always full of food), that is just more apparent now with the weight loss.

I would begin with seperating the two and monitoring weight, appetite and stool. A vet visit is not a bad idea at this time either but if the demeaner is currently good it might not be immediately necessary.

Took her to the vet, turns out she is indeed pregnant^.^ The vet think she's just not getting enough foot, particularly protine.

Thanks for responding^.^
