cooling help

wbcrows Jan 12, 2010 09:22 AM

Ok I have never cooled a snake before, just started keeping snakes in 08 and my florida hypo female ate year round. I have a pair of MBK's, 08 that stopped eating so I let them cool. The other day the female, she's always been nasty, started striking at the glass when she saw me. Should I attempt to slowly warm her up and attempt to feed or is this just her personality and I disturbed her cooling in the basement?

Sounds like you just startled her and scared her. However, you need to make sure your temps are low enough to be effective. Around 50-60 degrees is probably best. Mine are actively sporadically within these temps, and obviously more active at the higher end. If the temps are above 65ish, may be too warm for them to brumate effectively. Sometimes though, you just scare the crud out of them!!
