Going on the offensive

I apologize if this has been posted here before, but are a few links that everyone should check out and respond to.
SECOND WAVE: IRS AUDIT OF HSUS? - - HSUS JUST BLINKED!!!
The Tax Fraud Office of the IRS in Fresno, CA has now received over 2,000 individually addressed letters from concerned citizens in at least 48 different states. Each letter asked the IRS to audit and investigate the alleged excessive and under-reported lobbying activities of the HSUS. Significantly, more than 1,100 of these letters were documented - - sent by certified mail. This has created a 2,000 pound GORILLA that cannot be ignored, and this GORILLA is asking the IRS to audit the HSUS!

All letters mailed to date document that an irrefutable “NATIONAL OUTCRY” exists for the IRS to audit the HSUS. That is why I wish to express my profound appreciation for the letter-writing efforts of so many - - with special “THANKS” to those who incurred the extra expense and took the extra time to stand in long lines at the Post Office to send their letters by Certified Mail. “T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U!!!!!”

So, how has the HSUS reacted to the “Letter-Writing Campaign?” Well, Mr. Michael Markarian (HSUS Chief Operating Officer - - second only to CEO Wayne Pacelle) has used the typical “SPIN” of the HSUS for “DAMAGE CONTROL,” and purportedly stated: “We feel this is an anemic campaign, and they’re barking up the wrong tree.”

By trivializing the “Letter-Writing Campaign,” the HSUS just “BLINKED!” They “spoke out” because they could not ignore the “Campaign” with silence, or the spreading “WILDFIRE” of thousands of letters being sent to the IRS. This “WILDFIRE” has already unleashed over 2,000 “barking dogs” who are “barking” up the HSUS Tree. In short, the HSUS “response” is a sign of “concern” rather than “confidence!”

A Second Wave of First Class Letters could further fan the flames of the “WILDFIRE” and increase the pressure on the IRS to expeditiously begin an audit and investigation of the alleged excessive and under-reported “Lobbying Activities” of the HSUS, such as the $450,000 “contribution” by the HSUS for the Ballot Initiative effort in Missouri. This “contribution” was posted on the Missouri Ethics Commission Website on January 6, 2010 - - $450,000 for “Lobbying Activities” rather than direct animal care! . . . . . . . . Yet another 450,000 reasons for the IRS to begin an audit of the HSUS!

To begin the Second Wave of First Class Letters simply:

1. Write or type a note that says: “I respectfully ask the IRS to audit and investigate the alleged excessive and under-reported lobbying activities of the Humane Society of the U.S.”

2. Put that note or letter in an envelope that is addressed to the “INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE, FRESNO, CA 93888.” (No street address or your return address is needed.)

3. Put a $.44 stamp on the addressed envelope and drop it in the mail box. That’s it! Nothing more!!!

If 2,000+ letters to the IRS could make the HSUS “BLINK,” . . . . . stop and think how fast the eyes of the HSUS would be “BLINKING” if a few thousand additional letters were sent to the IRS by even more “barking dogs” who wish to show their presence at the base of the HSUS Tree! “THIS DOG WILL HUNT!!!!”
(Frank Losey)

CONTINUING WITH PHASE 2:
It is never to late to alert your Congressmen and State legislators about HSUS and their excessive lobbying. Urge your legislator to request an IRS audit of HSUS.

PHASE 2A: E-mail Letter #3 and the 13-page Overview Summary to your Federal Senators and Federal House Reps (Congress), (yes, both should fit onto your reps’ webforms, but if not, divide the 14-pages into three or four sections, and TITLE each Section, SECTION 1 of 3, SECTION 2 of 3, etc.) Snail-mail same to their Washington, DC addresses.

PHASE 2B: E-mail Letter #4 and the 13-page Overview Summary to your State Senator and State House Rep. Snail-mail same to their State Capitol Office. E-mail/snail mail to members of State Agriculture Committees, and others that hear animal bills.

dont you think that it is more important right now to focus your energies on fighting the current proposed legislation and contacting the house and senate members involved?

do you think that if these bills become laws you will have the humane society upset because the IRS will begin anb audit that could take years to be done while we are out of business now?

there should be one priority right now, attacking this proposed legislation. anything else is taking energy and resources away from the battle for something that can be done anytime.

tat2darin Jan 12, 2010 04:19 PM

Anything and everything that each one of us can do should be done! Come on this won't take 30 min. of your time! HSUS must be stopped! Even if we win this battle, how many more will we have to fight? We must win the war! They won't stop, nor will we!!

you are mislead, regardless of what if anything happnes with the IRS, like say an audit, it will take years and it will not eliminate the humane society. so go ahead and think that is important, they will be sure to laugh at you while your rights are stripped away one at a time from you, while you still wave your fist at them.

tat2darin Jan 12, 2010 05:33 PM

Make no mistake, I have 300 letters per senator collected at my studio and more to come from the Dixie reptile show this weekend in Birmingham. I have the time and I've got plenty of fight in me, might as well hit from every angle!
My bussiness has survived an audit, not sayin that it will shut them down, but you can bet it will slow their roll.
Fight on brother!

i think we should encourage everyone to fight whatever battle(s) they choose. just because someone is writing letters to the irs regarding hsus, does not mean those same individuals are not doing anything regarding s373.

EVILMORPHGOD Jan 12, 2010 07:05 PM

and gives us a bit more "ZAP" in our fight....

Maybe, possibly it may make the Humane Society realize we are not quite the easy target they seem to think we are!

One thing that really stinks is the fact that many people are just kind of "blowing it off" since their particular species are not on the list. We would really wake up if we knew that the Federal Government has entertained that all non native species are potential injurious invasive species.

Well, they have whispered this exact thing ( we heard all about it in the beginning stages of these bills ).... and BALL PYTHONS are one of their biggies.... you know, cause they BURROW!!!!

If every person that kept a pet gecko, beardie, corn snake or whatever were to fear that their reptile keeping rights are in crisis we would have a lot more people making some noise!!!!!

Imagine the voice we would have!!!!

Think "All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

"All or NOTHING"

Until then we are a baby with a much needed diaper change!

I Agree Kevin,
It seems so many people have forgotton about HR669 already?? They wanted to take it all?? We need to do all we can to be on the OFFENSE as well as the defense.
True, an audit may not shut them down, but it will slow them down enough for us to become MORE organized.
Also, you never know, the IRS wants their money, first and foremost, no matter what, so it could damage them severely enough to the point were it could shut down alot of their efforts in the courtroom.
I say, DO EVERYTHING YOU ARE CAPABLE OF DOING TO HELP!!!!

kthulhu Jan 12, 2010 07:38 PM

FYI I wrote my letters to the senators as well as signing the form letters at the recent MD show. It took me no energy to print off the IRS form letter and stick it in an envelope and put a stamp on it. I'll bet it took me less time to do that than it does typing a reply complaining about what a waist of time it would be. Anyhow, this was posted in some other forums so I just thought I would share as its just one more thing people can do when they aren't typing letters or making phone call. No these letters are not as important as letters to congress but if nothing else it says that we will not sit idly by while organizations try to hurt our industry.

toshamc Jan 12, 2010 09:43 PM

This isn't a new campaign by any means - they have been pushing this for years and yet the IRS has done nothing - it's not going to change - but yeah I submitted when this first came to me awhile ago. Doesn't hurt.
