Roommates or not?

bigdogreps Jan 13, 2010 07:09 AM

Im thinking about adding an addition on my house that would house my ever expanding ball colony. In my plans I included housing additional rat, soft fur and mice racks in the same room until another breeder asked me"won't the smell drive the balls crazy?" This never dawned on me and yet another breeder asked...'Wont that desensitize the snakes from eating?" All my snakes are extremely well fed and I have few feeding issues and I certainly dont want to cause any. There is really no way that I could look at this scientifically that I could think of so I am looking for opinions before I make roommates of the snakes and rats.
My racks are not open air.

I keep my balls, ASFs, mice, and the occasional rats all together in one room and haven't noticed any feeding issues. Do I still have some stubborn ones? Course. But most of my snakes are great eaters. A few have gone off food for the winter, but they did this right on schedule with no relation to my rodent population or location.
