To seperate or not to seperate...

tcdrover Jan 14, 2010 02:29 PM

Should I split these two up and feed them or hold off?

Tomorrow is cage cleaning day. I was going to seperate these two
and feed them on Saturday. They've been breeding for over 4
weeks since the last time I fed them. I've had them together on
and off since November.

The male is aggresively spurring the female, I think they
were probably locked up before I changed their water. They're
both sharp hets.

That's a tough call I usually continue to feed but if the fem
doesn't voluntarily go off food signaling a
ovulation is on the way

Often times with holding food will spur on the ovulation.

Especially if she's been in a pre Ov swell condition for quite some time

But I've had meals seem to force ovulation's as well so.....

Its seems each Boa has there own schedule and you have to get to
know your Boas, especially when they're tricky ones ......

Some Boas .... just bing, bang, boom ovulate

I like to hear other peoples processes,

there is always more to learn

Thanks Lar, usually I separate them and feed them every 2-3 weeks, unless they are coupling.

Those two have been tied up every time so far. I don't want to
actually pull them apart. I'm sure they would both eat if I fed
them. I need to clean that cage too. Wednesday I'll try again.

Leave them together IMO.

I have a pair that have been together since 10/12 and they have not been separated to be fed. They are both doing fine (the male is just now starting to get a little thin, female's due to go into her POS very soon). I always leave them be until they are done or it's obvious there is no interest (for 4 or more days) and then I'll separate and feed. Just the way I do it. As long as they are into what they are doing, in this case, actively courting, and weight wise are fine, they should be okay.

Thanks, that's what I normally do too. I wanted to clean out
those cages this weekend, now that our little cold front is gone.
I guess it will have to wait...

I just took these a few minutes ago. Things are looking good for
this summer.
