Frustrating males...Any input?

RyanT Jan 14, 2010 05:02 PM

I have 3 males this season. A Genetic Granite Yellow Belly, a Pewter, and a Fire. The Granite YB and Pewter are both well over a year old but showing no signs of having any clue what they're doing. The Fire is less than 500 grams and only about 9 months old but is breeding away already.

Basically just reaching out for some re-assurance or tips on what I could maybe try to do to get them to come around...or just commiserate about pain in the ass males that stress you out. At least there's still plenty of time left in the season. I have girls that I've had plans for for years and really don't want ALL Fire croses this season.

your problem is............... they're ball pythons!
tricks i've used with mixed results are.....

1) try letting your males spar with one another
2) try placing another males shed in with the breeding pair
3) try placing the male with the female right after he sheds
4) try misting the breeding pair with water
5) try introducing the male to the female as a low pressure weather system moves through your area
6) offer a ritualistic sacrifice to the snake gods
7) light some candles and put on some Barry White or Luther Van Dross music

sometimes nothing works. i have some boys right now that were breeding well a month or so ago and won't even look at the ladies now! I think the more you want it to happen, the less it does! just be patient!!
if anyone has other suggestions, i'd like to see them as well.

Early in the season my 900 gram cinny wouldn't even look at the females. He'd curl up and hide on the opposite side of the tub. He did this for a good month...and I was getting quite angry.
I took him out...waited 3 weeks or so, put him back in, and he locked up first day.

It's a waiting game. I'm thinking the female was to blame...and just wasn't ready for him.

It's not always the males some females go late into the season. We have a few females that won't be ready for another month.Once you breed for a couple of seasons you will know your which females go early and which females are a little late to breed.Hope this helps.Shane & Kim KSC Exotics

Don't worry...it's early...I am in the same boat with many of my special males that just sit there. Each year I have to bite my nails and wonder if I have any clue on what I am doing... of course not really.

Patience.... I will tell you that raising some males fast will often cause them to be uninterested in breeding the first or even second year.... Sometimes it works and other times it does not...

Did you cool these males?

....I saw a female cal king rape a male once....seriously....

.....my little boys are all figuring it out right now....drop the light or temps or both.....

,..........trigger the girls...males know how to follow...

I know the feeling I got a ghost male that I got as a "proven Breeder" that will not breed at all. And a Pin male. Tried everything under the sun and no breeding at all.Good Luck.
