With other animals

TheKoreanKeeper Jan 15, 2010 09:14 PM

Will other animals like dogs or cats kill reptiles on contact, if I were to clean an enclosure, it wouldn't be very easy watching my snake at the same time.(This is a hypothetical question, I don't have any other animals yet.) I don't think snakes and turtles would be that bad, but a mammal is different. Insects would probably be indifferent, but I saw a couple of people mix different animals, and I wanted to know if that is ok to do or not(I don't really think it is)

Hurm. I am not really sure where you are going with this. When I clean my cages I actually put my snakes in a spare rubbermaid used for cleaning purposes. I have one for each rack and wash out between animals. I do have both dogs and cats, which really has no reason for me to do this. I do it this way so I know my animals are contained while working.

Oh sorry, I wasn't being specific. I've seen a lot of people take their herps and inverts out and put them near their cat/dog/etc. At first I thought that was fun, but then I realized the dangers of doing so. So I asked this question before, and those same people said that it depends on each animal. They said that you could try introducing them for short periods of time, like when you are cleaning. I wasn't really focusing on my writing, I apologize for that.

Ok that is a bit clearer. My female dog is not allowed near my reptiles when i am working in their room. She would probably try to kill them. My 2 males are used to them and quite comfortable. So yes it does depend on the animal.
