Wow, those are both awesome!
Hey Joe,
nice close-up of the female. Why never a pic of the male??? Anyway, look at the center of the scales -- see that small translucent spot in the center of each scale? Well thats a sign of good things to come. I wouldnt be surprised if that snake turned out to be anerythristic looking in another year or two. It's certainly in the blood of these Juarex x anery Martir descendants.
The future will be interesting......

And God said, "Let there be zonata subspecies for all to ponder..."
Thanks Jerry. She gets lighter and lighter with every shed, that is for sure. The male decided to be a pain in the a-- and stop eating like most z's do. He is in brumation right now and I will snap some pic when he wakes up. They both are VERY nice handling snakes as well. Job well done with these two Mr. Kruse!!
As always my friend. Looking forward to their progression. Believe it or not, the other pair of sibs that I held back are STILL eating through the winter. I cant believe it myself, and a female Juarez that I'm raising up is also eating...so a total of three that I have to work with all winter. Every one else is in the cold.

Coincidentally the Hypoerythristic Mex Mex have the same ontogenesis....They hatch out red then lighten as they age.
They have light "SPOTS" in their saddles....The saddles turn pink with age then I hear they turn into an anery looking adult like this:
I think this pic is courtesy of Zenny but the female below is owned by Tom Agosta.....

Very cool John. I love watching them change as they grow. Yeah, I think this female z is gonna get very light indeed.

Well.......I, too want a pair to watch change......LOL
Pigment variations in mex mex are all ontogenetic....the Black phase Mex Mex darken with age and the saddles turn red/orange.....
The Hypo-E's saddles lighten with age......
Now I wanna see some do both! With speckles to boot.......LOL
