crazy king

i have a striped california kingsnake that is probably pushing a year old. when i got him he was very calm and easily handled. never struck or bit. he had mites when i got him, a pretty bad case. he is mite free now and his behavior is strange. he ranges from puppy tame to a psycho. sometimes when hes cranky i use a hook and hes fine. tonight i used a hook to transfer him to his feeding tank because he was a bit cranky. i have never seen him act like this. he was repeatedly biting the hook! and as he curled around it he was biting himself in a frenzy. when i layed him down in the tank he wouldnt let go of the hook and continued to bite the hook. finally put a fuzzy in let him go to it and as he latched on to it i got him off of the hook. hes in the process of swallowing it right now...whats goin on with this guy he was one of my calmest.

sounds like he's needing more food than you currently are giving him, more and bigger. IMO. Year old and all.

Throw another couple fuzzies in there with him tonight, see if that doesnt calm him down. He's hungry. Switch him to hoppers or weanlings, you'll see the difference.

I agree feed him a lot more to the point where he is all lazy and just wants to watch football tomorrow.

hahaha, who's gonna bring me the snacks then, if he's all lazy and stuff? Seriously, he could handle some more. Then he will be growing like a spaz, during this time count your fingers, as they rush the lid looking for food. After a while, they "know" when you're gonna feed 'em, but still are eager, lol. is it just me, or do all the eastern and Florida types go for the fingers, while the westerns, mexicana, and mountains just give you the look as if they're gonna, until you deliver? I don't have any experience with the calligasters, but judging by their no neck frame, they look to me like they come to dinner packing a lunch!
