Tank Habitat Pictures,

rbichler Jan 17, 2010 10:57 AM

I was messing with my camera last night, with different flash settings. Some of the picture came out pretty good so I thought I would share.
Here are a some that I kept awake this winter.

I thought so.. But, it has an odd head pattern.. So, i thought it may be a cross of some kind.. (biting tongue)

I have always liked your setups, they are MUCH a million times more exciting than mine are.. thats for sure!

Hope all is well!

The "liberty bell" pattern is a classic variation of a trifoliate found on many thayeri that have not been crossed with any other subspecies of mexicana.......

Thanks Craig, they all are thriving, I did have one "08" Thayeri go off feed for about three weeks, so I just put him down for the winter. But all in the pictures are feeding weekly, and are active for the most part.(winter time temps.) Heat gradiant temps run from 65 degrees to 90 degrees in the tanks, 11:00pm - 5:00pm (under the tank heaters only.) And 65 - 85 degrees in the evenings, with just using lights for source of heat. I use 15 and 25 watt bulbs depending on the size of the tanks. The under the tank heaters are on timers, and come back on about 11:00pm when the lights go off.
They all seem to be doing great.
Thanks again Bob.

Bob,

Interesting that you use bulbs. The air around here gets so dry in the winter I have problems keeping the humidity up for sheds. Do you ever had problems with the bulbs contributing to dryness?

I only use them in my tanks, and there on for about 6 hours in the evenings. The snakes seem to enjoy them, there always laying under them. Remember I'm only using 15 and 25 watt bulbs. 15watt in the short tanks and 25 in the tall tanks. It only gets about 85 degrees right under the light, 6 inches away.
I use the the sun glo, Neodymium daylight bulbs. There about 1" in dia. and about 4" long, so they fit in a regular aquarium light fixture.
Here are some picture of my snakes enjoying the "sun" light. They are laying right under the light.

And to answer your Question, they very seldom ever have shed problems. They have water bowls with the light overhead to make it humid. I keep all my reptiles on sand which does not contribute to drying out there skin. Most of my snakes lay low during the day undercover, but on the sand. In the evenings when the lights are on, is when they come out and bask and roam the tank.

Nice snakes and nice display set ups.

Do you use under tank heaters, or heat lamps?

That first picture above,is hatchling I bred in 08 from Chris B. Thayeri's. The other one, that I kept is down for the winter, but I'll post a picture from about a month ago of him. I didn't breed any Thayeri in 09.(infertile clutches).
Here is The brother to the female Thayeri. (first picture). He decided to go off feed, so I put him down for the rest of the winter.

I'm curious what sort of substrate that is. What brand? It looks like a good substitute for that ultra-fine sand that everyone has a fit about.

And of course, beautiful snakes and display.

I'll send you and E-mail, because we can't name brand names on this site.
