Non Substrate Incubation

Action_Reptiles Jan 17, 2010 01:36 PM

Hi I am new to this site but not ball pythons and have a question for breeders who use this incubation method. I have always used vermiculite for incubation but was thinking about trying the non substrate method.I was wondering if anyone has had any problems or negative things about this method(ie mold, too wet..ect) I was just looking for some feed back as I think I might try it on a couple of clutches this season. Any comments welcome

Thanks Pat

I only used it for one season so far, but had no issues. I switched to it after losing an entire clutch on vermiculite. Give it a shot. I think you'll find it easier, cheaper, and cleaner than using substrate.

I put wet perilite on the bottom of the tub, put that plastic light grating over it, and put the eggs on that. No issues.

a lot of breeders here in europe use this setup......with just water on the bottom.

not sure on the measurements off the top of my head, but it can fit a clutch of 6 or 7 eggs nicely......or probably up to 10 eggs if you lay them out in a row (before they stick)
