what size cage for a Texas rat?

joann42 Jan 18, 2010 12:10 PM

Would a 24x24x36 be enough for the rest of its life?
Also Ive read differing things about heat. Some say they dont need but room temps others say some belly heat is required.Any suggestions there would be appreciated?

Well it depends on what room temp is . . . they are remarlably sturdy and versatile snakes, but like most North American colubrids they need warmth. I keep mine around 72 nights and 78 days, with a basking spot. Really the temp rules on any rat or corn snake care sheet should be good. You don't need precise control on these snakes, but too cool will interfere with digestion, make them sluggish, etc.
