Things I missed.

terryd Jan 18, 2010 02:47 PM

I just got back from Red Fishing in Louisiana, and boy did I miss a lot of chatter here on the forum.
I thought I'd thank Jeff Hardwick for pointing out the article Cole and I had published in IRCF Reptiles & Amphibians. If you haven't seen it yet check it out, and let us know what you think, good or bad.

I always enjoy the names with faces post and I'm going to post mine now, sorry I missed the fun. Next time I see Cole I'm going to put him in a headlock for starting the names w/ faces thread while I was out of town.

Like I said, I was fishing.

Louisiana Red Fish, and my poor miss shaped mug.

I also read about all you old guys w/ long hair, and here is one of me in my hippy days. Whats that line? Long hair freaky people need not apply.

Since when did you make it out of your "hippie days"? Ha!

So THAT's a Red Fish, huh? Crab-eater.

I'm feeling a little more spry this afternoon. We may be in for beers and cigars sooner than I thought! Maybe. I'm eager to hear your French Quarter stories...

Nice red Dell. I have always loved catching those. One of the strongest fish pound for pound there is, IMO. They are so pretty in person too. Even though he looks nice and all in the photo, cameras never can catch all the light refractions those reds put off. Nice.

Your right Joe, photos never show how bright some fish can be in person.

Randy, 14lbs was the biggest of the trip and two of us caught that size of Red.

One of the guys on the trip caught a 48 lb Black Drum, but the photo was so bad I'm not even going to post it.

I was happy w/ the trip as this was my first time fly-fishing for Red Fish, but 14lbs isn't very big for a good Red fish, it was really to cold to get good shots at bigger Reds because the big dudes were in deeper water trying to find warmer water.

Here is my biggest Black Drum, I think this fish was 12 or 13 lbs. What the hell, I look like I'm sitting on a beer bottle in this photo.

Here is a 10 lb Red.

All for now. -Dell

Niiiice!!
Sounds like a heck of a trip other than the sitting on a beer bottle part. lol
It's been a few years since I caught any drum, red or black so I'm jealous.

Monster Black Drum!!!..WOOOOW!

I've seen some 40-60 pounders in Ft. Pierce, and a GIANT one smashed my finger mullet, but never came back again for it. I would have NEVER landed it, as it hit my mullet right up against a huge concrete piling(and many others just feet apart) that supported a railroad tressel.

It would have been....SNAP!,....SE YA!!

Mike thats a huge Black Drum, it must of pulled like a s.o.b.. How is your kid holding that fish up? By it's gill plate?
Those Black Drum have some of the stickiest slim on them, don't they? I got some on my pants and it was like trying to get Gorilla Glue off.

Your thayeri site is very nice. Great looking animals.

Peacock Bass, Amazon Basin Brazil.

Terry, My son was about 5'9"-5'10" I guess. They are not too slimy I don't think. Good eating but some have worms in meat that can turn you off. Thanks for the compliments on the Thayeri..Mike Bodner
