Feeding tricks?

Fishfreak22 Jan 19, 2010 12:56 PM

well my new albino female hog finaly ate!!! and now I can rest lol, the only problem was that it took a live pinky slathered in tuna juice in a dark lidded cup before it would eat,I offered live pinks everday and nothing, until the tuna juice!! granted it has been only 5days since I got her, but she is so small I really wanted to get something in her.anyway no one in my house really cares, lol, but I think you guys can relate..........what are some of your feeding tricks and stories??

once got a few fussy feeders eating by dipping the pinks in liquid garlic extract that I use to feed my saltwater tanks with the stuff is beyond smelly LOL.. but hey it worked on some, they ate and did well afterwards..all that counts in my book!!

Yep...
Generally the none feeders once they start feeding it's all down hill from there and taking thawed in a matter of days or weeks. I think they get so hungry that when they finally start feeding some almost can't stop. Some of my best feeders like this male started out this way...
This guy didn't want anything for awhile...then I fed him a scented pink and he hasn't hardly missed a meal since on unscented.
Hogs are always hungry...some are just really stubborn!!

It "finally" ate? You had it 5 days! That tells me, you were trying way before then! I never try to feed new stuff til at least a week! If you let them get acclimated, you normally don't need "tricks"!

I've had great luck w/ruby red minnows! I buy 2-3 from my local petstore, freeze them, then scrape frozen minnow on the pinky! The other method I've heard but haven't tried, is take their water out overnight! The next day, dip the pinky's head in water so a drop of water hangs from it's head! Offer it to the hog, when it goes to drink the water, it naturally will continue on to the head of the pinky!

thnx for the "trick"

"Tricks" are reserved for like 5 WEEKS not 5 days!
